Our modern, technologically advanced era has provided us with more time and opportunities to pursue our talents, dreams and personal goals, which have positively impacted our lives by making them more meaningful and purpose-filled.
Through the quiet promptings of the heart or by being gifted with a special skill, one may feel that God is directing one toward a certain career or project. Yet, the Lord has the same singular preeminent divine purpose for all people – eternal salvation.
In God’s great love for us, he has made it his divine purpose to provide a “way” by grace for us to share with him in his eternal glory (John 14:6; 17:23-24). His salvation plan was set in motion before the creation of the world, a plan that involves making us holy (Rom. 6:22; Eph. 1:3-14; 2 Tim. 1:9; Titus 1:2) by placing within us a “new heart” and a “new spirit” (Ezek. 36:24-29).
Though God’s gift is freely given (Rom. 5:15-17; 6:23; Eph. 2:4-10), he gives us the freedom to choose our eternal destiny, either life or death, blessing or curse (Deut. 30:15-20; John 4:10; Rev. 3:20). We do not claim our inheritance in Christ by signing a contract, but by welcoming the Lord into our hearts by loving him with all our being (Deut. 6:5; Matt. 22:37), offering him thanks and praise (Ps. 100:4), and faithfully serving him all our days (Deut. 6:13; 1 Sam. 12:24; Luke 4:8; John 12:26).
If God’s divine purpose and desire is the fulfillment of his salvation plan in each of us (Ps. 57:2; 138:8; Jer. 29:11), then let us in turn, make it our chief purpose in life to grow in faith and love as we enthusiastically await in hope our redemption (Rom. 8:23-25).
This Easter as you celebrate the glorious resurrection of Jesus Christ and anticipate your own rising from the dead to live forever in the presence of our Savior, lift up your voice in joyful song and praise to the Lord!
“Come, let us sing for joy to the LORD; let us shout aloud to the Rock of our salvation. Let us come before him with thanksgiving” (Psalm 95:1-2)
